PIER – the strategic partnership of Universität Hamburg and Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY in Germany – supports the development of new ideas between PIER research fields and competence fields. To promote international and national exchange and interdisciplinary dialogue, PIER supports the stay of internationally recognized scientists in Hamburg.
Goal and purpose of funding
PIER offers a number of research fellowships for researchers starting at the postdoc level. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in the scientific activities at DESY and the Universität Hamburg and to collaborate with its members.
The guest stays – in terms of PIER funding – must be aimed to develop new ideas in interdisciplinary and/or inter-institutional context. Accordingly PIER fellows should have intensive exchange with more than one group/one institution during their stay.
PIER fellows may be involved in workshops, lectures or training of graduate students.
Duration of stay
The fellowships will be awarded on a competitive basis for a period of 2 weeks to 2 months each.
Applications for shorter or longer periods may be considered only in exceptional cases.
Nature and extent of support
Funding is effected by means of a non-refundable lump-sum.
The rates of support for the duration of the fellowship will be set at the following levels:
Post-Docs € 2,200 per month
Associate Professors € 2,300 per month
Full Professors € 3,000 per month
