There are currently three regular English courses for PhD students on the Bahrenfeld campus. The courses are reserved for doctoral researchers of the PIER Helmholtz Graduate School and its coorperation partner IMPRS-UFAST. Postdocs and PhD students from other graduate programmes in the PIER reserach fields may also participate upon request.

The English courses are part of our language module "Negotiation and networking in English" that is specifically designed according to the needs of researchers in science. Our teacher is a native speaker with many years of experience in teaching scientists and graduate students.

DESY Language Café

Do you need to strengthen your languages skills in e.g. German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese (e.g. Mandarin or Cantonese), Swedish, Norwegian or any other language in the world or you just simply miss speaking your own mother tongue? Then please join us every two weeks at the DESY Language Café!

The key idea of this Language Café is: "Learn a language well for free while helping others learn another language well for free." UPDATE: So far we have had 8 very successful Language Café meetings with around 25-30 participants each time, who participated at either the German, French, Italian, English, Mandarin, Russian, Swedish, Norwegian or Spanish speaking table. The Language Café will be held every two weeks, on Fridays around lunch hour.
